Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on the part of Montreal that is known as the West Island. People who don't understand they mistakenly believe it is the West Island extends westward from Montreal. It is actually the West Island includes everything westward of Lachine. Lachine. Many times, it is credited as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time in the city was brief. Brugel was raised in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. Early ambitions were to become an expert dancer. However, a growth spurt caused her to outgrow every dance partner she was able to have. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." When I grew out of my male dancers, I decided to quit. There are many dancers who make the move into acting. For the Brugel family, it was their drama instructor who pushed her in that direction. The teacher suggested she try to find a role in the school's annual show. The teacher who suggested that she pursue a part the annual school production. It was the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned the Bachelors in Fine Arts in 2000. In the 20+ years since, Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions across the big and small screens. She attracted the most interest when she was offered the part as Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the only Canadian actor on the show in Season 1 and was only seen occasionally.
